This workshop provides a fast-paced review of the principles of grammar that are most often misunderstood by even experienced proofreaders, copyeditors, and writers. We’ll examine areas of contested usage, and we’ll tangle with sticky examples of subject-verb agreement, dangling and misplaced modifiers, fused participles, the subjunctive mood, and restrictive and nonrestrictive clauses. Along the way, we’ll look at the virtues and shortcomings of the major reference works and online resources for grammar.

Class time is devoted to discussion, exercises, and question-and-answer periods; no reading or homework is required.
