Editing for the Web requires a different mind-set and often different skills from those valued in print publishing. Drawing from The Yahoo! Style Guide and other manuals, the instructor introduces key areas of focus for work in digital communications and media.

Topics include

  • Organizing content for online readers.
  • Using keywords for search engine optimization.
  • Crafting effective headlines.
  • Understanding basic HTML codes.
  • Writing for a global audience.

The major differences between effective styles for the Web and for print will also be discussed. Participants will practice using short exercises.

Karen Seriguchi is an award-winning editor and project manager equally comfortable on the Web and in print. A former copyeditor at the San Francisco Chronicle, Publish magazine, and ITworld.com, she has freelanced for the past ten years. Her clients include Berrett-Koehler, Cisco, Peachpit Press, Salon.com, Weldon Owen, and Yoga Journal. She was a member of the editorial team that produced The Yahoo! Style Guide.
