The San Francisco Bay Area is one of the biggest centers of publishing and other editorial opportunities in the United States. But editorial careers are in demand, and many individuals compete for the jobs. Developing sound skills alone does not ensure work. To build a career in the exciting and satisfying business of working with words, you need to know where the jobs are, how to find them, what to do to obtain the work, and how to keep your clients coming back to you with more work.

Participants in this workshop discuss possible sources of work, including the obvious as well as the not-so-obvious; strategies to help you stand out above the competition; and ways to raise your chances for getting repeat work once you make a connection. Discussion will most benefit individuals who are beginning a freelance career or returning to the publishing business after a time away. Come with questions.

Note: The instructor will not give specific job leads at this workshop. Handouts will provide you with resources for follow-up depending on your interests and needs.
