The San Francisco Bay Area is an important center for publishing and other editorial opportunities, but it is also crowded with freelancers competing for the work. Explore different types of editorial work, learn how to find leads, and discuss ways to improve your chances for earning a living.

The session includes a formal presentation and tips for increasing your workload as well as time for Q&A. Handouts provide you with resources for follow-up depending on your interest and needs. Specific job leads are not provided.

Barbara Fuller has worked in publishing for more than three decades. As director of Editcetera, she has helped connect freelance publishing professionals with hundreds of clients. Her personal clients have included the Administrative Office of the Courts, Encyclopaedia Britannica, HarperSanFrancisco, Jossey-Bass Publishers, Sierra Club Books, Sierra magazine, Ten Speed Press, and many independent authors. Barbara has taught writing and editing for UC Davis, UC Berkeley Extension, and private businesses, as well as for Editcetera. She is the author of How to Start a Home-Based Editorial Services Business (Globe Pequot Press, 2013).
